Theme Color in the Report Builder

Give each of your reports its own custom look with report-level theme colors.

In this article:

Overview

The Report Builder's theme color feature lets you apply a consistent accent color to an individual report, spanning text, shapes, metrics, and statements. You can change it all at once with a single click. Because theme colors are set at the report level (not account-wide), you can have a different theme color for each report, giving you even greater control over how your reports look.

How Report Theme Color Differs from Company Theme Color

It's worth understanding the distinction between the two color settings:

The company theme color (set in Company Settings) applies to all metrics and dashboards within a company. It's your baseline branding across the workspace.

The report theme color (set inside the Report Builder) applies only to the elements within a single report that are explicitly set to "Use Theme Color." It does not override company-level metric colors unless those elements are set to use the report theme color.

When you copy a report from one company to another, the report theme color travels with it. Dashboards, however, update based on the company theme set in Company Settings.

Tip: Use report theme colors to differentiate reports quickly. For example, applying a different accent color to a client-facing executive summary versus an internal operations report.

For managing your company-wide color theme, see Default Color Theme in Reach Reporting.

Changing the Report Theme Color

To update the theme color for an open report, click the Theme button in the upper left corner of the Report Builder. From there, select any color using the color picker or enter a hex code for an exact match.

All elements in that report that are set to use the theme color will update instantly.

Note: Report theme colors are not account-wide. Changing the theme color only affects the open report. Each report can have its own theme color, which is saved with that report.

Setting an Element to Use Theme Color

You can assign the theme color to text or shapes within the Report Builder. To do so:

  1. Click on a text or shape element in your report.
  2. Open the color picker from the top menu.
  3. Select Use Theme Color.

This option is available anywhere you can change a color, including inside metrics and statements. When editing a metric or statement, you can apply theme colors to:

  • Charts

  • Text

  • Titles

  • Backgrounds

Once one or more elements are set to use the theme color, they will all update together any time you change the report's theme color.

Note: Metric-level color customizations (set in Additional Settings > Data Series) are separate from the report theme color. If a metric has a custom data series color, that color will display unless the specific element is set to "Use Theme Color" inside the report. To learn how to customize colors at the metric level, see Customizing Metric Colors.

Saving a Color as a Preset

If you've created a custom color that you want to reuse, you can save it as a preset. See the Saving a Color as a Preset section in the Customizing Metrics Colors article for more information.
