Claude AI Dashboard Widgets

Build custom dashboard metrics using natural language with no formula-building required.

In this article:

Overview

Reach Reporting has integrated with Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, to bring a new way of building metrics directly inside your dashboards. Instead of manually configuring rows, columns, and data ranges in the metric builder, you can describe what you want to see in plain language and let Claude generate the widget for you.

Note: Claude AI Dashboard Widgets are currently in beta. This feature is currently available for dashboards only. Support for reports and consolidations is on the roadmap.

The Claude integration allows you to create metrics on a dashboard by typing a prompt in natural language. For example, you might type: "Show me gross profit margin as a percentage over the last 12 months as a line chart" — and Claude will build the widget using your connected company data.

This feature is designed to reduce the time spent manually configuring metrics, especially for users who are still getting familiar with the metric builder or want to generate custom visualizations quickly.

You do not need a Claude account to use this feature. It is accessible directly within Reach Reporting.

Tip: For more on enabling AI features in your workspace, see AI-Powered Reports and Dashboards — Enabling AI.

Getting Started

Before you can use Claude AI Dashboard Widgets, AI must be enabled at both the workspace and company levels.

Step 1 — Enable AI at the Workspace Level

The workspace owner must activate AI reporting in workspace settings. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the workspace and check the box for "AI Enhanced Reporting."

Step 2 — Enable AI for Individual Companies

Once activated at the workspace level, navigate to Company Settings > AI Enhanced Reporting and turn on the AI feature for the company. This step is required for each company where you want to use AI-powered widgets.

For full instructions, see AI-Powered Reports and Dashboards — Enabling AI.

How to Create a Claude AI Widget

Step 1: Open or create a new dashboard for the company you want to work in.

Step 2: Select Add Metric and then choose the AI Widget option.

Step 3: Type a prompt describing the metric you want to build by including the data you want to see, the time period, and the chart type if you have a preference. The more specific your prompt, the more accurately Claude can build what you're looking for. For example: "Show me total payroll expenses by month for the last 6 months as a bar chart" will return a more targeted result than "show payroll."

Step 4: Submit the prompt by clicking the Send button or by pressing Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard. Claude will generate the widget based on your connected company data. This process may take a few minutes, depending on the complexity of the request.

Step 5: Once the widget generates, you can review it and make further edits if needed by entering another prompt.

Step 6: Click Save and Close to view the new metric in your dashboard.

Claude can also handle non-date columns from Google Sheets or Excel Data Sheets, making it possible to build widgets that reference custom data beyond standard financial date ranges.

Editing a Claude AI Widget

In the dashboard view, you can click on the menu bar at the top right of the AI widget to edit it.

Once the widget opens, you can make edits by entering another prompt.

Previewing and Reverting a Widget

Claude AI widgets support version history. After submitting an additional prompt, you can:

  • Preview a previous version of the widget
  • Revert to an earlier version if a new prompt produced an undesirable result

This gives you flexibility to iterate on prompts and refine your widget without losing earlier work.

Resizing a Widget

Click and drag the bottom right corner of a widget to resize it. The data shown will adjust to fit the size of the metric.

Deleting a Widget

To delete a widget, click on the menu bar at the top right of the AI widget and select Remove.

What Updates AI Widgets

Once a Claude AI widget has been created, the following will keep it current:

  • Book Month updates — When the book month advances, the widget's data will update accordingly, just like standard metrics. See Book Month — How to Use for more information.
  • Syncing the company — A company sync will refresh the underlying data in your AI widget. See Syncing Your Company for instructions.

AI Widget Limitations

Because Claude AI widgets are generated differently from standard metrics, there are a few limitations to be aware of:

  • Dashboard AI Summary — The dashboard's AI summary tool will not function on AI-generated widgets.
  • Dashboard Filter — The main dashboard filter will not apply to AI widgets. Filtering must be addressed within the widget itself or via a prompt revision.
  • Export to Excel — AI widgets will not export when using the dashboard's Export to Excel feature.
  • Templates - AI widgets are not able to be saved as a template to be reused.

Note: Standard metrics and statements on the same dashboard are not affected by these limitations and will continue to behave normally.

These are known beta limitations and may be addressed in future updates.

Usage

  • Claude AI Dashboard Widgets are included with your Reach Reporting subscription. No separate Claude subscription or account is required.
  • There is a monthly usage limit for AI widget generation. This limit applies specifically to the Claude widget feature and is separate from the token usage tracked for other AI features in Reach Reporting. Contact support if you need to discuss additional capacity by using the live chat feature or emailing support@reachreporting.com.
  • For details on how token usage is tracked for AI-powered reports and dashboards more broadly, see Token Usage and Limits.

Security and Privacy

The Claude AI widget integration is built with the same data security standards applied across Reach Reporting's AI features:

  • Your data is not used to train any AI models. The data sent to generate your widget is used solely to fulfill your request.
  • Reach Reporting uses a third-party API that is SOC 2 Type 2 certified.
  • Data is protected with encryption at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+).
